Some of my American and UK friends have been asking me about the sport of hurling which is played in Ireland and is one of our two National games. Gaelic football being the other.
I am posting some videos which I discovered on YouTube and that I hope will go some way towards explaining the game to you.

I heard something interesting on tv last night...the question being asked was..."why is a puck called a puck in hockey?"
a likely answer was that the name was derived from hurling in ireland..they said when the hurler hits the ball they say the ball was pucked...
have you heard that?
you are absolutely right judy....there is a competition in Ireland known as the 'puck fada' ... hurlers compete to see who can hit the ball furthest .... I'm thinking puck may be a gaelic word for hitting something. What do you think Joe??????
